Forumwarz - a potentially offensive time waster
After spending the better part of an hour on Forumwarz I still can't decide if it's just sick or if it's kind of fun. It's a bit like a car wreck on the highway. I know I shouldn't be looking but I can't quite turn away.
It's sick, it's twisted, it's the internet on it's worst level and darn it, it's kind of fun. At least for a little while.
Forumwarz is a parody role-playing game that takes place on the internet - or at least the Forumwarz version of it. Your goal is to complete missions that are given to you through a mock up of GoogleTalk called Sentrillion.
Your first "friend" is ShallowEsophagus who begins giving you missions to pwn various forums by being a troll. Depending on the character type you are assigned at start up, you have tools like drooling on the keyboard or bashing your head on the keyboard that you can use to destroy forum threads and eventually, pwn a forum.
Future missions involve buying illegal software from the Russians, pwning more difficult forums and other internet oddness.
Completing missions gives you cash, called Flezz in game, and items that you can pawn or use in other missions. The game is NOT for those easily offended. It's crass, coarse and there are frequent f-bombs in the fake chat sessions.
This is also a game for a more mature audience as it requires you to shop at the Drugs R Fun store to get various concoctions to improve your playing, engage in certain cyber activities to get more Flezz and just generally use a more adult perspective.
If you can get past that, here are the more enjoyable and time-wasting aspects.

Actually, I wonder if you tried the service? You don't actually send the video attached in an email as you seemed worried about. All you do is go to the site, have it quickly record your video for you, and it'll give you a link you paste in your email for you. The advantage over youtube is you don't have to mess with recording yourself, uploading, waiting for it to convert, etc.
Aside from an ugly looking interface, it's pretty easy and quick to use. I don't have any use of it myself, but it seems like it could fill a fun little niche.

I've been using www.freegabmail.com for over a week and although I had doubts initially, I've become a real fan. You don't have to upload any files to them, you just record your message with a webcam and click send. It sends an email with a link. Pretty easy & fast.
My webcam (Creative Live Pro) has great image quality. I think the model of webcam can make a big difference. I'm getting webcams for my nieces and nephews at college. They never write, but I'll bet they'll send videos.

I think everyone here is missing the best part of the gabmail service. They have this thing called gabjam that's the coolest thing i've used in a long time. it's an option they give you everytime you send a mail. if you use the option, then you don't even have to actually send another video email. you just record as many new videos as you want on their site then all you and the other people in the thread need to do is refresh their browser. If there's a new video then it just shows up. it's kinda hard to describe but it's very cool.

GabMail is fun and EASY to use! And GabJam's are the neatest thing since sliced bread!!(to borrow a cliche)
There are so many uses for this beyond foolin' around with your friends...you can have virtual business conferences, send auditions to agents and scouts and get feedback, keep in touch with a soldier overseas, if you're deaf you can sign your message instead of type, and as a parent my favorite use is to screen who my daughter is communicating with over the internet--they have to send me a gabmail message to ME before I'll add them to her addressbook (and if they're "bad" I add them to the blocked list). SO MANY uses!! And referring to the comment about an "ugly interface"--does it really have to look spectacular to be a useful tool?! It's not like the background interferes with your video or anything--it's simple and fun and free, what more could you ask for?
